Su muerte (sólo mostrada en la versión extendida de El Retorno del Rey) ocurre en Isengard en lugar de la Comarca (todo el saneamiento de la Comarca fue cortado de la película por razones de tiempo), donde, luego de ser confrontado por la Compañía, es acuchillado en la espalda por Gríma tras golpearlo y humillarlo.

¿Por qué grima mata a Saruman?
En la película no aparece el Saneamiento de la Comarca, y su muerte aparece en la versión extendida de El Retorno del Rey, durante el diálogo entre Gandalf y Saruman. Tras recibir una bofetada de Saruman, debida a que Gríma iba a unirse a Théoden, saca una pequeña daga y apuñala a Saruman varias veces en la espalda.
